About Almoravid Empire
A Berber dynasty that began as a religious reform movement in the western Sahara. Yusuf ibn Tashfin founded Marrakesh and crossed into Spain, defeating Alfonso VI of Castile at Sagrajas in 1086. The Almoravids united the Maghreb and Muslim Spain. The Almohads overthrew them and took Marrakesh in 1147.
