About Ancient Carthage

A Phoenician city that grew into a maritime empire controlling trade across the western Mediterranean. Its rivalry with Rome led to the three Punic Wars. Hannibal crossed the Alps with elephants in 218 BC and crushed Rome at Cannae. Rome destroyed the city in 146 BC after a long siege.
