About Ayyubid Sultanate
Founded by Saladin, a Kurdish commander who ended the Fatimid Caliphate in Egypt. Saladin defeated the crusaders at Hattin in 1187 and retook Jerusalem. He fought Richard the Lionheart during the Third Crusade. His family ruled Egypt and Syria as a loose confederation until their Mamluk soldiers seized power in Egypt.
