About Chola Dynasty
A Tamil dynasty that built a powerful navy and dominated South India. Rajaraja I built the Brihadeeswarar Temple at Thanjavur. His son Rajendra I sent naval expeditions to Srivijaya in Southeast Asia. Chola bronze sculptures of Shiva as Nataraja are masterpieces of Indian art. The dynasty declined in the 13th century.
