About Golden Horde
The northwestern khanate of the Mongol Empire, ruling the steppe from the Danube to Siberia. Russian principalities paid it tribute for over two centuries and their princes needed its approval to rule. Its capital Sarai stood on the Volga. Defeat at Kulikovo in 1380 and the Great Stand on the Ugra River in 1480 marked its decline.
