About Latin Empire

A crusader state created when the Fourth Crusade sacked Constantinople in 1204. Western knights installed Baldwin of Flanders as emperor. The Venetians took a large share of the spoils, including the bronze horses of St Mark. Weak and short of money, it lost Constantinople to the Byzantine Empire of Nicaea in 1261.
