About Neo-Babylonian Empire
Rose from the ruins of Assyria under the Chaldean king Nabopolassar. His son Nebuchadnezzar II made Babylon the greatest city of its age, building the Ishtar Gate. He destroyed Jerusalem in 587 BC and deported its people to Babylon. Cyrus the Great of Persia took the city in 539 BC with little resistance.
