About Pagan Kingdom
The first kingdom to unify the lands that make up modern Myanmar. King Anawrahta unified the Irrawaddy valley in the 11th century and championed Theravada Buddhism. Rulers and nobles built over ten thousand temples and pagodas on the plains of Bagan. Mongol invasions in the late 13th century hastened its collapse.
