About Second French Empire
The regime of Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, nephew of Napoleon I, who became emperor after a coup. Baron Haussmann rebuilt Paris with wide boulevards. France expanded overseas and backed the ill-fated Maximilian in Mexico. Defeat by Prussia at Sedan in 1870, where the emperor was captured, brought its collapse.
