About Umayyad Caliphate
The first hereditary Islamic dynasty, ruling from Damascus. It extended Muslim rule from Spain to Central Asia and the Indus. Caliph Abd al-Malik made Arabic the language of government and built the Dome of the Rock. The Abbasid revolution overthrew it in 750, but a surviving prince founded the Emirate of Cordoba.
