The first state to bear the name Turk, founded when Bumin overthrew the Rouran. It quickly stretched from Manchuria to the Black Sea, controlling much of the Silk Road. The Orkhon inscriptions of the later Turkic Khaganate are the oldest known Turkic texts. It split into eastern and western halves around 603.
